Last week we at KACHEP received a team of 4 project workers from Europe and Uganda who carried 1350 baby trees- aka seedlings. Roland from Germany led the team, joined by Bea from Switzerland, Peter from Gulu and Fr Morris from Lugazi.
Joshua, KACHEP's agroforestry officer buzzed around on a motorcycle with Peter who runs a nursery Mabira forest outside Jinja. The two tree lovers had fun visiting key villages to give the good news of trees- grafted mango, guava, orange, avocado, and pommegrannet- raised in Peter's project with Roland's support. For 2 days we all went out together and planted a handful of trees in three villages and a school. Most of the seedlings will be cared for at KACHEP's nursery until the rains start in spring. Yes- the dry season HAS finally arrived!
We are so grateful for this support to Karamoja from this team, all of whom this was their first Karamoja journey. Over the years, seedlings from KACHEP have been nurtured in communities to provide fruits, medicines, building materials and livestock fodder. Peter plans to return with another 700 fodder trees in a couple of months. This will be great for our goat and chicken communities.
Oh- not only did Roland and his team bring Karamoja seedlings- they also brought home KKAB's Miriam! How super to have her home as she served as their tour guide n
